Our Ethos

As we grow, new insights and challenges naturally arise. We stay open to them and refine our approach as we go.

OUR DESIGN

While most jewellery is designed on a computer, we design your heirlooms in nature, by hand in Bali. We proudly run our own workshop which allows us to maintain a high level of quality. We use traditional goldsmithing tools and techniques to make your jewelry just for you.

My aim since the beginning has been to create jewellery that is everlasting - both in style and in quality. My designs aren't led by trends and designed to last forever, passed down through generations.

We encourage mindful consumption. We encourage people to curate a collection of pieces that they can wear indefinitely, as well as renew or rework those that they don't. So to extend the life cycle of our jewellery, we invite customers to repair or recycle their Jewellery pieces with us directly. In addition we provide green eco tips to encourage and educate you on how to keep your jewellery looking its best for years to come.

Specialising in bespoke jewellery, several of our commissions are made using a customer's own jewellery. Redesigning an existing piece to breathe new life into the gemstones, or melting down the gold and turning it into a unique piece.

Our jewellery by its very nature is a circular product.

PEOPLE & PRACTICE

We are proud of the fact that most of our pieces are made in house by our skilled jewellers.

Depending on the complexity of the piece, we outsource certain diamond settings to a small family owned business in Bangkok and a super skilled Diamond setter The Netherlands. We have a close and long standing relationship with them to ensure they continue to meet our standards.

We are passionate about supporting local creativity and community. Upholding age old jewellery making techniques is one of the ways we can help preserve culture.

OUR CRAFTMANSHIP

For me, the entire collection is an act of artistry and passion. It is built on the core values of honesty and transparency, ensuring everything we create is genuine.

When it comes to the making, we combine traditional hand-making techniques with the clarity of cutting-edge technology. This commitment ensures every piece is hand-finished to the highest standard.

We don't just create jewellery; we create unique fine art pieces designed to carry their meaning and their magic for generations.

OUR METALS

We believe in taking care of our planet and the people on it. That’s why our fine jewelry is always crafted from Certified Recycled Gold and we offer you the option of Fairmined Eco-Gold with bespoke orders. Our recycled gold and Silver are of identical quality to newly mined refined gold or silver. By using recycled metals you help avoid the environmentally damaging effects of mining.

GOLD

We work with 3 gold suppliers. Our recycled gold comes from an Australian refinery. The gold we use is high quality, refined and 90% recycled from within Australasia. The other 10% is Alluvial gold sourched  from the South Island of New Zealand.

For our bespoke Jewellery we work with Ethically Fair Trade mined Gold from Borneo. This gold is mined by indegiounous woman, under a fairtrade project runned by our good friend Meri in Bali.

Our Gold chain and findings are high quality and 100% recycled gold. We use 2 suppliers, one based in Pforzheim, Germany and the other in the USA.

SILVER

Our pure silver material comes from Umicore Precious Metals and is 100% recycled. This refiner has been listed as Conflict Free Smelter by the Responsible Minerals Initiative.

OUR GEMSTONES

Any small (up to 2 mm) Diamonds used in our Jewellery are Kimberly Process certified, that can be traced to source. We are aware that KP certification is flawed and outplays the small artisanal miners that we so much want to support. So in 2021 we focus on replacing more Diamonds with Ethically sourced Canadian diamonds and offer reclaimed Diamonds within our bespoke designs.

We source gem stones from different suppliers, all around the world. They are small producers or independent gem collectors, straight from the mine. We acknowledge the many issues involved in sourcing the supply of gemstones to make truly ethical jewellery. We continually research, learn and progress towards our goal of working solely with ethically sourced materials.

WORKSHOP PRACTICES

We're continually working on ways to minimize our carbon footprint, through logistics, waste reduction, and aim for 100% recycled packaging. We strive for ‘zero waste,' we reclaim, recycle, repurpose wherever possible. Working with Gold and Silver, all excess metals are collected to be recycled.

We have reduced the amount of harmful acids used in the jewellery making process, in some cases mixing natural ingredients such as vinegar or lemon juice to make alternatives. We use Eco friendly polishing products and Non-toxic pickle to remove oxidation after soldering.

We avoid single use plastics where we can. In 2021 we introduced biodegradable ziplock bags as part of our packaging solution. We minimize shipments as much as possible through combined orders and hand carry while visiting.

For our look books and collection cards, we print on sustainably sourced paper with vegetable inkt.

We enjoy participating in beach clean ups. Pilates, breathwork and Kundalini Yoga are amongst the things that give me positive vibes.

RESPECT FOR OUR PLANET

The challenges facing our planet are enormous, and this has strengthened our commitment to make sure we are doing all we can in our business and in our home lives to keep our footprint as small as possible.

We 'stand up for trees' by offsetting our yearly Carbon footprint. We calculate our footprint at the end of the year and donate trees. Our support means they can plant trees that reduce our carbon footprint, mitigating the emissions we create by making our collections & shipping our orders.

Through our partnership with Tree Nation, we are pledging to donate 5 trees for every order. By working alongside this great project, we are ‘planting good seeds’ across the world and making a difference one purchase at a time, all thanks to you!

So feel good about your purchase and help keep our planet green!

GIVING BACK

Experiencing the Tsunami while living in Phuket in 2004 was the start of making a conscious effort to partner with several charities throughout the years. Natalie sees importance in rebuilding and rehabilitation, she has assisted organizations and places that have been – and are still – close to her heart.

‘Natalie Dissel Jewellery’ has been a socially conscious company from the start, training the workforce, paying a fair price for their labor and skills. In 2008 a Dutch documentary was made covering her ‘Trade not Aid’ Ethos while working in Bangkok.

Natalie travelled several times to Africa and collaborated with UK fair-trade brand MADE on their new boutique range. Designed in the slums of Nairobi and launched in the UK, MADE won the Ethical design award in 2008. Where after Natalie worked charitable in Sri Lanka, assisting the export development board, to promote Sri Lanka’s gemstones, support small scale Jewellery workshops.
